Where To Sell Your Car Online: Facebook Or Craigslist?

Back in the day, the only way you could sell a car was by word of mouth. You would put it outside with a huge FOR SALE sign on the windshield with a telephone number, hoping someone would call. Now, you can sell everything online! Between eBay, Craigslist, and other online websites, the idea of putting your car “up for sale” is as simple as 1,2,3. But have you ever thought about posting it to Facebook?

Where To Sell Your Car Online

Facebook Or Craigslist?

I know I just mentioned how untruthful people can be selling online, but as long as you know what you are doing, you can properly sell online and buy your next vehicle online. I think some of the most popular online car sale sites today are eBay, Craigslist, Autotrader, and a few others I’ve mentioned in my post called “The Best Car Search Websites”. But have you thought about using Facebook?

Probably not.

Most people think Facebook is a way of connecting with old and new friends but it has evolved into so much more! Facebook groups are an awesome way to meet similar minded people who all share the same passion. Between photography, art, music, marketing, business, and yes, car sales, there is a page for everyone.

Some of my favorite groups on Facebook for selling & buying cars are:

The best thing about selling your car (or other items) on Facebook, is the fact that you can “post” to one page and link that same post to all the other pages you follow. Meaning, you don’t have to “repost” to every single page, reaching millions in just a few clicks. Plus, we all know Facebook is a little safer than Craigslist. Facebook people are (usually) real.  The company spends hours and hours detecting scammers and flagging those that are doing dirty business. Plus, if you are unsure whether or not someone is real on Facebook, scroll through their personal page and creep them out!

As Thrillist explains, “by putting actual buyers and sellers face-to-face, Facebook makes it easier to eliminate uncertainty and provide full disclosure when it comes to selling almost anything.”

To post something, all you need is Year, Make, Model, Price, Location, and a quick description of the vehicle. Plus a couple of pictures. People will either contact you by commenting on your post or sending you a personal message. Some of these groups have hundreds, to hundred-thousands, to millions of followers. So, depending on what you are looking for or what kind of audience you want to reach, there’s a Facebook page that can help you out!

And don’t forget to follow ChicMoto on Facebook! We post fun, informative car things all the time 🙂
