Kia Extended Warranty
When you buy a new Kia vehicle, you will receive a manufacturer's warranty that covers 60 months or 100,000 miles whichever occurs first. Kia has one of the longest warranties with a generous mileage allotment. You may also want to purchase Kia's extended warranty when you purchase your new vehicle or before the manufacturer's warranty runs out. There are 5 levels of extended warranties through Kia to choose from. Those plans are Power-train, Silver, Gold, Gold Plus, and Platinum.
Kia currently sells 11 vehicles in the United States. Those vehicles are: the Sorento and Sportage CUV, Soul urban passenger vehicle, Optima and Optima Hybrid midsize sedans, Forte compact sedan and Forte 5-door compact hatchback, Forte Koup two-door coupe, Rio sub-compact sedan and Rio 5-door sub-compact hatchback, and the Sedona minivan. Each warranty may vary depending on the model of the vehicle.
What Is Covered By A Kia Extended Warranty
Let's take a look at what is covered under each level of extended Kia warranty coverage. The 5 levels discussed here are Power-train, Silver, Gold, Gold Plus, and Platinum. Each level will have a different fee attached to it. The lowest level of warranty is the Power-train. The most comprehensive level of warranty is the Platinum level.
Power-train
Power-train coverage includes the major parts on your vehicle and offers protection against many major mechanical breakdowns. The following components are covered under the Power-train warranty:
Silver
Silver coverage offers all of the features of Power-train Coverage plus additional benefits. Those additional benefits are as follows:
Gold
Gold offers all of the same features of Power-train and Silver protection plans, plus additional coverage for specific parts. Those additional parts are the engine, transmission, drive axle, steering, brakes, air conditioning, front suspension, electrical and additional hybrid/plug-in electric/compressed natural gas components.
Gold Plus
Gold Plus offers all of the same features of Power-train, Silver and Gold protection plans, plus additional benefits covering specific parts including the following: cooling, fuel, air conditioning, steering, front suspension, rear suspension, electrical and additional hybrid/plug-in electric/compressed natural gas components.
Platinum
In addition to offering the same features of Power-train, Silver, Gold and Gold Plus protection plans, Platinum expands to cover almost all assemblies of your vehicle, excluding brake linings, brake drums and rotors, disc brake pads, standard transmission clutch components and assemblies, air bags, solar powered devices, hinges, glass, lenses, sealed beams, body parts and/or panels, trim, moldings, door handles, lock cylinders, tires, wheels, all batteries except Hybrid/EV/High Voltage batteries as listed under Silver Coverage Plan, light bulbs, upholstery, paint, bright metal, freeze plugs, heater and radiator hoses, exhaust system, shock absorbers, audio/security or other systems not factory installed, work such as front-end alignment or wheel balancing, constant velocity joint boots, safety restraint systems, cellular phones, radar detectors, appliances, or vinyl and convertible tops.
Protection Plan
In addition to the extended warranty plans, you may also want to add on some protection plans. I'll go over those here.
Kia Used Car Warranty
Kia used care warranty, also called a Kia Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) Warranty comes with a 10-year/100,000 mile certified pre-owned limited powertrain warranty and 12 months/12,000 miles of Platinum Coverage. Also, included is 24-hour Roadside Assistance and Towing/Rental/Travel Breakdown coverage. For eligible vehicles, Kia also offers 5 protection plans for certified used-vehicles.
In addition to the mentioned benefits of buying a Kia certified used-vehicle, you'll also receive the following benefits:
Is A Kia Extended Warranty Transferable?
Most automobile warranties are transferable from owner to owner when the vehicle is sold. Normally the new owner is covered under the same remaining warranty as the previous owner. There is simply a changing of hands over of the vehicle with the warranty. However, Kia warranties are not fully transferable to new owners. The warranty doesn't become totally lost, but it does change to only 5 years or 60,000 miles of power-train coverage.
Keeping your Kia clean is another way to preserve its worth. Interior and exterior maintenance work wonders. Be sure to maintain the interior by vacuuming with a quality car vacuum cleaner, and take the time to wash the exterior of your Kia at least once a month.
Why Buy An Extended Warranty?
Over a million Kia vehicles are on the road today in the United States alone. It is expected that the number will continue to grow in the coming years. Even though the manufacturer's warranty is generous at 60 months or 100,000 miles (whichever occurs first), you still should consider getting the extended warranty for several reasons.
Vehicle ownership isn’t always a pleasant experience. Don't get caught off guard without a warranty, because you may end up paying more than you can afford if something big goes wrong. Even if you have money put aside, you don’t want to dip too deep into family funds when your Kia needs to be fixed. For that reason, it's good to play it safe and buy an extended warranty.
Another reason to buy a Kia Extended Warranty is that a warranty will help you to take better care of your vehicle. When something is covered under warranty, most people want to get it fixed right away, because there is no out-of-pocket expense. By taking care of problems when they need to be addressed, you may prevent other parts from breaking. The domino effect goes for vehicle repairs too. It's best to get things fixed right away.
Can I Buy An Extended Warranty After Purchasing A Vehicle?
Yes, you can buy an extended warranty after purchasing a new Kia vehicle. But when you go to buy a new Kia vehicle, chances are good that the dealer will try to sell you an extended warranty that day. For the dealer, they obtain the sale early and get their sales perks if you buy it right away. For the consumer, it may be of benefit to buy the coverage right away, because it can be calculated into monthly payments. But keep in mind, that you can purchase an extended warranty, anytime before your manufacturer's limited warranty is up. However, you may find that the cost increases as your car gets older. Also, inflation may have increased the cost of the extended warranty if you wait to purchase it.
Can I Cancel My Kia Extended Warranty?
If you change your mind and want to cancel your Kia extended warranty, you can do so if you haven't used any of the warranty services. You will have to make the cancellation within the allowable amount of days of purchase to receive a full refund. Make sure to contact your Kia dealership without delay when or if you decide to cancel your policy.
Will Coverage Still Be In Effect Out of the United States?
Unfortunately warranty coverage is applicable only to any Kia vehicle registered and operated in the United States. If you are going to be driving or relocating outside the United States, it is important that you contact Kia to determine what service and warranty coverage is available in the country where you will be traveling with your Kia vehicle.

Kia Extended Warranty Conclusion
The Kia Extended Warranties are something to consider. Even though Kia does offer a very long manufacturer's warranty of 60 months or 100,000 miles, it still is a benefit to continue the warranty after the manufacturer's warranty runs out. There are 5 levels to choose from. They are called Power-train, Silver, Gold, Gold Plus and Platinum. You may also want to purchase a protection plan which will cover the wheels and tires. Unfortunately, a Kia warranty isn't fully transferable if you sell it, while many others are. The warranty doesn't become totally lost, but it does change to only 5 years or 60,000 miles of power-train coverage. The nice thing is that you do have several choices when it comes to an extended warranty with Kia. You can pick the warranty that fits your budget and how much that you would like to be covered.

"They are knowledgeable about the products they sell and were able to guide us to the plan for our Audi A6. The end result is we saved about $1000 over the plan the dealership offered us. Also there was no high pressure sales approach like all the other companies I called."
