Chevy Extended Warranty

All Chevy vehicles come with a 3 year or 36,000-mile, whichever comes first, bumper to bumper manufacturer's limited warranty. This is a standard in the auto industry. Some automobile makers offer longer manufacturer's warranties but this 3 year or 36,000 is very standard. In addition to the manufacturer's warranty that comes with your new vehicle, you may also want to purchase an extended Chevy warranty for an additional price. I'll go over the extended warranty in detail.

The Chevy extended warranty is 5 years, or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. The extended warranty is backed by General Motors. This extended warranty is fully transferable, should you happen to sell your vehicle. This is also a nice feature if you are buying a used Chevy that has less than 5 years or 60,000 miles on it.

An extended warranty can be purchased at the time of your new vehicle purchase. This is nice because you can roll the expense right into the financing and monthly payments of your vehicle. Neither the Chevy manufacturer's limited warranty nor the Chevy Extended Limited Warranty has any deductible coverage.  A new or used Chevy vehicle with an extended warranty and not yet over 5 years of age nor 60,000 miles on the odometer is warranted for repairs, including parts and labor to correct defects in material or workmanship. This excludes routine maintenance. Repairs that are done will be performed using new, remanufactured, or refurbished General Motors parts.

Unfortunately, the Chevy extended warranty is not available for vehicles sold in California, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Minnesota, or Missouri.

What Is A Chevy Extended Warranty?

A Chevy Extended Warranty will provide coverage after you hit 36,000 miles or 3 years, whichever comes first. Basically, when your manufacturer's new vehicle warranty runs out, an extended warranty would kick right in. Of course, you will need to purchase an extended warranty before you have hit 36,000 miles or 3 years. Many people purchase an extended warranty when they purchase a new vehicle. You may also want to add it on before  you have reached 36,000 miles or 3 years.

Take a look at some of the Chevy extended warranties available.

24 Month/Unlimited Mile Limited Warranty

The most common parts covered include a majority of service replacement parts including labor. Both ACDelco and GM genuine parts are included. There is a stipulation that states that the part had to have been installed by a General Motors dealership. Parts that are covered include:

  • GM Original Equipment Brakes
  • GM Original Equipment Rotors
  • GM Original Equipment Alternators and Starters
  • Professional Brakes
  • Professional Rotors
  • Professional Alternators and Starters

Limited Lifetime Warranty

Chevy offers a General Motors Limited Lifetime Warranty on specific service parts sold by GM Dealers. Chevy will replace these specific Genuine GM/ACDelco Parts for all manufacturer defects, including 24 months of labor. This Limited Lifetime Warranty is valid for parts purchased on or after April 1, 2014. It shall remain in effect for as long as the named purchaser owns the vehicle on which the part was installed. The following list is what is covered under the extended warranty:

  • Chassis Parts
  • Fuel Pumps - Electronic
  • Ignition Wire Sets
  • Radiators
  • Shock Absorbers/Struts
  • Wheel Bearings – Hub Bearings

Take note to save the original sales receipt and/or job card, together with the properly completed warranty reimbursement form. A warranty reimbursement form is provided at the time of purchase.

12 Months/Unlimited Warranty

Chevrolet offers a 12 month, unlimited mile coverage period on the following ACDelco Replacement Parts including labor as long as the part was installed by a General Motors dealership:

  • Advantage Wheel Bearings – Hub
  • Advantage Shocks & Struts
  • Advantage Brakes
  • Advantage Chassis Parts
  • Parts which include bolts, fasteners, grommets, spacers, shims, washers, and clips

Excluded in the 12 Month/Unlimited Warranty, Limited Lifetime Warranty, and the 12 Month/Unlimited Warranty are the following:

  • Fluids, or any additional parts necessary to complete the installation
  • Damage due to improper installation, alteration or objects striking the part
  • Damage caused by the use of a coolant or coolant mixture not in accordance with the vehicle warranty
  • Improper application; use of part in a manner not specified by General Motors
  • Loss of time, inconvenience, loss of use or other incidental or consequential damages

New vs. Certified Warranties

Even if you are buying a used Chevy vehicle you still will have the option to buy a warranty. A new warranty comes with your newly purchased vehicle. With Chevy, a new warranty will provide coverage up to 60,000 miles or 5 years, whichever comes first. New warranties are normally transferrable from one owner to a new owner if the vehicle is sold provided, and if the vehicle hasn't gone over 60,000 miles or 5 years. With a certified used warranty, the used vehicle will be inspected first by a Chevy dealer and then warranties are offered.

New Chevy Extended Warranty

A new Chevy Extended Warranty will kick in when the Chevy Manufacturer's Warranty runs out. That means that if you buy an extended warranty, it will start right after 36,000 mile or 3 years, whichever occurs first. Keep in mind that you will need to purchase an extended warranty before the manufacturer's warranty runs out.

Certified Used Warranties

A certified used warranty is a warranty that is still in effect even though there has been a change of vehicle ownership.

Vehicle Protection Plans

Chevrolet offers two protection plans, Silver or Platinum. A protection plan from Chevy can be financed right into your monthly payment schedule at the time of your vehicle purpose. The Chevy Protection Plan comes with extras in addition to coverage for approved repairs, including lost key and lockout, trip interruption, towing and road service, and rental car reimbursement.

If or when a breakdown occurs that is covered under the protection plan, you'll have access to the certified service technicians that can be found at any one of the 4,000 GM dealerships nationwide. These technicians are trained to work on GM vehicles. They often use the same parts as those used when your Chevy was first built.

Some Benefits You Will Receive With A Protection Plan

Rental car coverage

In the event of a covered breakdown, the service contract will pay for or reimburse you for receipted expenses to rent a replacement vehicle or for alternate public transportation while your vehicle is being repaired. Coverage will be provided unless increased as a result of parts availability delays.

Towing/road service

If your Chevy is disabled, the service contract will pay for or reimburse you for receipted towing or road service expenses, up to $150 per occurrence.

Trip interruption

If a covered breakdown occurs more than 100 miles from your home and results in the repair facility keeping your vehicle overnight, the service contract will reimburse you for receipted hotel and restaurant expenses, up to $200 per day, for a maximum total per occurrence of $800.

 Lost key & lockout

If the keys for your vehicle are lost, broken, or accidentally locked in your vehicle, the service contract will reimburse you for receipted expenses, up to a maximum of $35, for locksmith services.

Benefits

There are many benefits to purchasing a Chevy Extended Warranty. Here are just a few of those benefits:

  • Convenience - If something goes wrong with our Chevy vehicle while it is under warranty, you can just drop it off at a Chevy dealer to have it fixed. You won't have to seek out a mechanic to try to troubleshoot what is going wrong. You also won't have to try to self diagnose the problem. There will be no long hours on google, troubleshooting or looking at where to buy parts. Just drop it off at a certified Chevy mechanic and go. Convenience means time for more important things in life. And time also can mean money.
  • Worry-free Automobile Ownership - Stress is a killer and can make you ill. That statement might seem a bit overdone when we are talking about extended warranties, but it's true. Many people have lost sleep and worried about how they would pay for unexpected auto repairs that their vehicle was needing. By buying an extended warranty you are taking that stress away.
  • Greater Value - If you sell your Chevy vehicle and can show that it was under warranty while you owned it, it will have a great value on the market. Why? Because statistics show that vehicles under warranty are better-taken care of than vehicles not under warranty. Also, you could transfer your warranty to the new owner if the vehicle still had miles or years left on the warranty. This is a seldom looked at benefit of purchasing an extended warranty.
  • No Unexpected Big Expenses - This last benefit that I'm going to go over is self-explanatory and also the number one reason that many people purchase extended warranties. Because your vehicle is under warranty you won't have to shell out the money if something goes wrong that is covered under warranty.

Why Buy A Chevy Extended Warranty?

If you like to buy American, chances are good that you are a fan of Chevy vehicles. Not only are Chevy vehicles USA-made but Chevy has been around for a very long time. They've had time to perfect their vehicle-making skills and their extended warranty contracts. For that reason, you can rest assured that Chevy will take good care of you when you purchase an extended warranty. Many customers like dealing with Chevy and their extended warranty contract because they are buying from a name that they can trust.

Keep in mind, when you buy a Chevy extended warranty, you are purchasing a promise. In the event that something needs to be fixed after your Chevy manufacturer's warranty has expired, an extended warranty will kick in. This means that there is no gap in coverage. Hence, no big bills for you. In the event that something goes wrong and your Chevy vehicle is in need of repairs, simply take it into a Chevy dealer.
Going without an extended warranty can be a risky business. When things go wrong, and inevitably they will, you will have to pay the full bill without an extended warranty to fall back on. Sure, some repairs may be manageable to pay cash for, but some repairs and replacement parts can be very pricey.

Conclusion

I've gone over the details of a Chevy Extended Warranty. I've covered the different plans that Chevy offers along with considerations to think about when purchasing an extended warranty. There are many benefits of an extended warranty such as not having unexpected expenses nor having to worry about how you are going to repair something that has gone wrong. Simply take it to your Chevy dealer and let them deal with it. When you pick up your vehicle, you will have a fixed vehicle which has saved you time, energy and money. Yes, buying an extended warranty is a risk as to whether you will need it or not. The worst thing that can happen is that you don't use your extended warranty, and you have wasted money. But the piece of mind that comes with having an extended warranty may be one of the best values of all. Also, your vehicle will be more valuable if you ever sell it. Sellers that can show that their vehicle has been under a warranty show that they have taken care of their Chevy vehicle. If you sell it while still under a warranty, the buyer is buying a more valuable vehicle than if it is not under warranty.
